Back in January, I posted my wish for iPhone update 1.1.4. I didn’t ask for much.
First, I wanted a change in the way the iPhone handles YouTube URL’s. When I click a YouTube link in email or Twitter, the iPhone launches Mobile Safari which produces an error message, as it doesn’t support Flash. I’d like for it to launch the native YouTube application instead.
My other request was even more modest. You may have noticed that touching the menu bar while at the bottom of a web page in Mobile Safari quickly scrolls to the top. I’d like the same behavior when I’m at the bottom of a lengthy email message.
But that’s just me. Several of you shared your own wishes for future iPhone functionality. The most popular requests were
- Cut and paste. Nearly all of the 28 people who commented on that post requested cut and paste.
- Video. This one’s kind of a no-brainer. I always feel sheepish when I’m showing off my iPhone to someone who asks, “How does it shoot video?”
- Flash support. Again, nearly everyone asked for Flash.
Well, when iPhone Update 1.1.4 was finally released, we were all disappointed, as the official description of the changes was “bug fixes.” Thanks, Apple.
Since then, Steve demonstrated some aspects of iPhone 2.0, like the App Store, AIM, games and so on. Best of all, developers have the SDK in their hot little hands. With that in mind, have your wishes changed? I’m not interested in Flash support, but I’d love copy and paste as well as video.
Most of all, I’m eager to see what some of my favorite developers come up with. How about you?
