Check out this description of a local re-imagining of “A Christmas Carol”
“This is truly a holiday ghost story, featuring terrifying images and dark emotions … There’s no countinghouse, no top hats, no parties, no feasting, no Tiny Tim. Four top-notch actors, in black turtlenecks and black pants, are on a black stage with a table, a chair, and a few candles and flashlights.”
There’s no way in hell I’d go see this artsy-fartsy molestation of the definitive Christmas story.

Ditto. I love A Christmas Carol and am hoping to go see it for the first time at the local theater. I can just imagine what they are going to do with the flashlights.
This kind of post-modern production reminds me of tedious nights spent in graduate school supporting friends who had grand aspirations about changing the theater (who were also often dressed “in black turtlenecks and black pants”). Of course now they’re all pining for walk-on spots on Law & Order. All of which makes me question the assertion that these are “top-notch actors.” If they were, would they need to re-assure us in advance?
Ryan-
Exactly my thought. In college, I lived with two theater majors, and endured all of their “progressive” shows. Ugh.
