Lately I’ve been thinking about my writing style vs. my own personality. I’ve found myself slipping into a “writing voice” on the blog sometimes, which is a bit troublesome. Proper grammar is one thing, trying to sound like someone other than me something else.
Earlier today, I was browsing Jorge Quinteros’ blog, and he had published a post on his blog’s personality. Specifically, a tool called Typealyzer that “…calculates your Myers-Briggs Type Indicator based on the content of your blog.” With flashbacks to my freshman psychology classes, here’s what it said about me:
The Doers
The active and playful type. They are especially attuned to people and things around them and often full of energy, talking, joking and engaging in physical out-door activities.
The Doers are happiest with action-filled work which craves their full attention and focus. They might be very impulsive and more keen on starting something new than following it through. They might have a problem with sitting still or remaining inactive for any period of time.
That’s about right.

Funny. Just ran my blog through the link you suggested and thought, “weird, not like how I think of myself at all.” then I remembered two things: First, I’m blogging specifically to help raise attention and funds for a set of charities, so I might not be surprised if my blog’s personality comes out more on the extraverted side of the spectrum, among others. Second, I had to remember that Myers-Briggs personality indicators, the basis for Typealyzer, are essentially horseshit covered horseshit with horseshit filling. As a research psychologist, I would know.
Mike – it’s definitely the astrology of the world of psychology. Heck, a phrenology head is more valid. Still, a bit of fun. Like fortune cookies.
