Pay attention, you’ll probably never see this again.

We could really use a ladder right about now.

It’s October, and I’m in the mood for scary movies. When the weather gets cold, the leaves turn color and the kids start asking about Halloween costumes, I want to be scared.

I’m picky about horror films. As a teenager, I watched slashers. Friday the 13th, Freddy Kruger and so on. They have their place, but they illustrate the difference between being scared and being startled.

When the bad guy jumps out of the dark with his machete swinging, we’re startled. When the undead little girl emgerges from the well with her black hair covering her face, we’re scared.

I prefer to be scared.

Here’s a list of some of my favorite scary movies, in no particular order, as well as a few I haven’t seen yet. Feel free to add your own.

Before we begin, let me offer a spoiler warning. I’ll reveal significant plot points in each of the following movies, so if you don’t want to know, stop reading now.

When I was in Jr. High and high school, I wanted nothing more than to create special effects for movies, especially stop motion. Beautiful shorts like this make me wish I had followed through. Click “HD” and watch it in full screen. It’s wonderful.

Here’s a little something for all you iPhone-using Scrantonians. I pulled the Scranton bit from the Biden/Palin debate skit on last week’s SNL and turned it into a ringtone.

Earlier today, my first article appeared on the online version of the Journal of New England Technology. I’m quite excited about it, and will be writing a new one every other month. This time, I wrote about Twitter’s humble beginnings and impact on business.

Much thanks to Chris Gillis and Ged Maheux for taking the time to help me out.

Here’s a simple little trick I came across this evening. If you create a link with “http://twitter.com/home?status=@your_twitter_handle” where “your_titter_handle” is just that, it will bring your users to twitter.com and create a reply tweet. Cool.
