As a teenage boy, I delivered newspapers in Scranton, Pennsylvania in a headbanger’s denim jacket; Van Halen’s Women and Childred First on the Walkman. Along my route sat a black Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which I lusted after the way a desert waits for rain. T Roof, spoiler, jacked-up rear end and blazing firebrid logo on the hood. Hell, yes.

It’s with those same eyes that I’m pouring over this illustrated history of the firebird logo. I didn’t realize that it went through such changes, or that its first appearance wasn’t on the hood.
